Power Glasses buying guide

How to choose a frame size

Most frames have three numbers printed on the inside of the arm, for example 52-18-140. The first is the lens width, the second is the bridge width (the gap over your nose) and the third is the arm (temple) length, all in millimetres.

If you already own glasses that fit you well, compare their numbers with the measurements on our product pages. Frames within a couple of millimetres of each other usually fit in a similar way.

Frame shape and face shape

  • Round face: rectangle and square frames add definition.
  • Square face: round and oval frames soften strong lines.
  • Oval face: most frame shapes suit.
  • Heart-shaped face: light, round or oval frames balance a wider forehead.

These are only starting points. The easiest way to decide is to try a few frames on at our shop.

How to read your prescription

An eyeglass prescription is usually a small table with one row for the right eye (R or OD) and one for the left eye (L or OS).

  • SPH (sphere) is the main lens power. A minus sign is for short sight, a plus sign for long sight.
  • CYL (cylinder) and AXIS correct astigmatism. AXIS is a direction between 0 and 180.
  • ADD is extra power for reading, used in bifocal and progressive lenses.
  • PD (pupillary distance) is the distance between your pupils in millimetres, used to centre the lenses.

If anything on your prescription is unclear, bring it to the shop or send us a photo on WhatsApp. Only an eye-care professional can tell you which power you need.

Lens types and coatings

Single-vision lenses have one power across the whole lens and are the most common. Bifocal and progressive lenses combine distance and reading power for people who need both.

Common coatings include anti-reflective (anti-glare) coatings, blue-light filtering coatings and photochromic lenses that darken in sunlight. Ask us which lens options are available for your prescription and frame.

Glasses for children

For children, light and flexible frames with a snug fit over the nose are a practical choice. Bring your child to the shop so we can check the fit.
